Disneyland Trip Reveal

So hubby and I made some plans this last week. We’re going to Disneyland!  We decided we’d ask my parents if they would like to share a suite with us in Anaheim and take my little sister, who hasn’t been to Disneyland since she was three (she doesn’t remember it at all).  It was a quick decision,  and didn’t take much planning. Because it was hub’s and my idea, we (read ‘I’) got to let Sis know.  I decided that I couldn’t just tell her that we’re going, I had to make it special. So, I scoured Pinterest for some ideas.  I wanted something simple and to the point… none of those scavenger hunts or anything (as cute as they are). I told her at my parents’ house, so I needed something I could just bring and give to her.

I found these free printables of some cute little autograph pages and a countdown sheet, which I printed on cardstock. Click the pictures to go to the website…

I had a picture frame that the countdown fit in perfectly, so I didn’t have to go buy one. Next, I went to Walmart and found a Minnie Mouse shirt, a Disney Princess pen, one of those one-photo-per-page photo albums, and a dry erase marker.  I slipped all the autograph sheets into the photo slots (there were just enough slots for all the pages), and put the countdown in the frame.  I wrote the number of days left before we leave in Mickey’s face, and laid the photo album on top so it would be obscured. It fit perfectly. Then I wrapped the frame, album, pen, and marker up in the shirt, so the front of the shirt was showing, and stuck my package in a gift bag.

The following pictures are terrible because I went straight from Walmart to my parents’ house and Sis was around, so I prepared everything on the bathroom floor (locking door) because I had Z with me and it was cold in my car. #reallife #momlife
I may redo these pictures at a later date, but they give you an idea of what the gift looked like. The Disney princess pen was cool… It had little light on the end that shone a pink heart on whatever you pointed it at (third picture).

The gift was a success! Sis loved it, and her expression when she saw the countdown and realized she’ll be going to Disneyland was priceless!  I’m pretty sure I was almost as excited to give her the gift as she was when she realized the meaning of it.  I love looking for creative ways to surprise people! What are some ways you’ve surprised your kids/siblings?

On Being Superwoman

Lately I’ve been struggling with the fact that I never seem to get caught up on what ‘needs’ to be done. I always seem to be falling behind rather than getting ahead on housework, grocery shopping, meal planning, organizing, etc. [Read more…]

Wordless Wednesday – Hawaii Sunset

On Being Present

Wow, look at that… It’s the year 2017! How did that even happen? Seriously…

2016 Summary

I’ve never done any of these summaries before, so I thought I’d do this one – some good questions here I think. I wonder how different my answers will be next year… Have a happy 2017!

1. What did you do in 2016 that you’d never done before?
Went to Walt Disney World, went on a cruise, had a baby!!, took said baby to Italy and Switzerland…

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year I resolved to not make any new years’ resolutions. I believe I kept that resolution. I’m not sure yet what I’ll do this year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Three friends of mine gave birth to their littles the same week I had Zachariah. There are two girls and two boys in the bunch, Z being the fourth in a matter of five days.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope

5. What countries did you visit?
US, Caribbean, Mexico, Italy, Germany (airport counts, right?) Switzerland

6. What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
More time and energy to do stuff

7. What dates from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 18th, the day my son was born… Was a memorable day, that.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Again, I’d have to say, giving birth to my baby boy! I couldn’t have done it without my amazing hubby, mom, and doula!

9. What was your biggest failure?
My biggest failure may be keeping the cupboards stocked with good food. I suck at meal planning and hate grocery shopping. It shows. 😐 Also, I apparently suck at blogging consistently. Maybe I just am bad with consistency in general.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Technically it was last year, but tickets to Walt Disney World.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My hubby, Shawn’s. He’s been amazing this year; took 6 weeks parental leave when Z was born, helps out with the house, cooking, and baby, as well as working full time and some on the side.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
A great majority of the American and Canadian population who can’t get over themselves and the fact that its ok to disagree on political stuff and still be friends.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Diapers? Baby food? Airplane tickets and trips around the world? Probably.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I see some recurring themes here… My baby arriving, and traveling.

16. What song will always remind you of 2016?
I don’t know if there’s one particular song, but if there’s a mood for this year, its soft, mellow, new age music. Though, that’s pretty much my mood every year.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? A bit sadder; lots of people are sick right now, and postpartum hormones are no joke, even 7 months later.
b) thinner or fatter? Probably a bit lighter… But I was almost half way through a pregnancy last Christmas, so…
c) richer or poorer? I’m thinking monetarily about the same. Experientially quite a bit richer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Built relationships with people

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Sitting around wasting time

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Christmas Day was spent with Shawn’s family, hanging out and having dinner. My family usually does Christmas on the 24th, but as there are quite a few people sick right now, it’s been postponed to the new year.

22. Did you fall in love in 2016?
I fell in love with my beautiful son, and again and again with my wonderful husband.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
I didn’t watch much tv. What I did watch was mostly on Youtube; Jimmy Fallon, Randomland, and Fresh Baked Disney.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Nope

25. What was the best book you read?
I haven’t read much this year either. Haven’t had the time or energy.  There isn’t really a book that sticks out to me as the best one I’ve read all year.

28. What did you want and get?
A healthy baby. To be able to spend time with hubby at home after Z arrived. To travel.

29. What did you want and not get?
A crafting business that miraculously markets and grows itself (turns out you have to work at that).

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Finding Dory. Was cute, funny, but had some good morals and little life lessons. Plus all the feels…

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
On my birthday this year, I was (and still am) 30.  It was Good Friday this year. I slept in, Shawn and I went for breakfast in Armstrong, and I don’t remember what else we did. I think we just chilled. A few members of my family were sick that weekend, so we didn’t spend time with them till later that week.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I’m pretty satisfied with how my year went and ended up. I can’t think of much that would have made it better, other than maybe a massive move of God.  Yeah.  Revival/reformation would have been nice this year.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2016?
I’d classy, somewhat casual, but not thrown together. I like to dress up when I get the opportunity, but don’t like to feel overdressed, which happens more often than not in our uber casual society.

34. What kept you sane?
Music. Imagination. God.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I haven’t really kept up with celebs… I think Jennifer Lawrence is kinda cool…

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I try not to get involved in conversations of political nature. I don’t watch the news, and I don’t like to read articles on social media. It just gets me too wound up, and I’d rather just stay out of it.

37. Who did you miss?
Sarah Naude, Kendra Gonzalez, Michelle Koster

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Jocelyn Schnurr is pretty cool

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2016:
Life passes too quickly.  Slow down. Savor the little things; a loving glance, your baby’s babbling, even a good cup of coffee with a loved one. Soak it all in. Be present.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
There are so many contradictions//In all these messages we send//(We keep asking)//How do I get out of here//Where do I fit in?//Though the world is torn and shaken//Even if your heart is breakin’//It’s waiting for you to awaken//And someday you will//Learn to be still//Learn to be still
